Opus Build Guide

This guide will cover the following:

  • Scyrox V8 Disassembly Instructions
  • Opus Assembly Instructions

Additional tools that may help assembly:

  • Tweezers
  • Paint brush
  • Screw tray

Please note that parts shown may not fully mirror your Opus Kit. We love feedback from our community and will continue to iterate and update kits to provide the most optimal experience!

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Check your Scyrox V8

Remember to test your V8 before opening it! It is always easiest to troubleshoot the mouse before you disassemble the components. If any issues arise, contact your vendor before proceeding with disassembly.

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Open the shell

Retrieve the following from the Opus kit:

  • Plastic pry bar
  • PH000 bit (Philips head)
  • Screwdriver handle

Then proceed to remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the mouse.

Early Opus kits and Review Units may be missing the PH000 bit.

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Release the clips

Make sure the mouse is powered OFF. Remember to save all parts in case you need to troubleshoot the V8 later.

Starting from the USB-C port, pry the top shell outward to release the internal clips and separate the shell.

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Separate the shell

Beware of the ribbon cable when separating the shell. This cable can be fragile!

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Loosen the ribbon cable

Lift the black latch to free and wiggle the ribbon cable loose. Be gentle with the cable.

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Remove the battery JST

Carefully wiggle the JST header free from the battery. The battery will be migrated to Opus later.

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Remove the main PCB

Remove the 4 screws holding the PCB to the base. Gently wiggle the PCB to break the plastic welds holding it in place.

The mouse wheel can be removed to assist with handling the PCB.

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Remove the battery

To remove the battery, lift the foam pad underneath the battery. Do not pull on the battery or dig at the silver wrapper.

Once the battery is free, the adhesive can be gently removed from the silver wrapper.

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Remove the daughterboard

Like the main PCB, the daughterboard will also have plastic welds. Remove the 2 screws securing the board, then wiggle the board to loosen the welds.

Scryox V8 Disassembly

Confirm the necessary parts

Opus will require the following parts:

  • Main PCB
  • Daughterboard
  • Battery
  • Mouse Wheel

Remember to save all parts in case you need to troubleshoot the V8 later. Your vendor may ask for them in the case of an RMA.

Opus Assembly

Confirm the kit contents

Opus should contain the following:

  • Accessories Bag with Skates, H1.3 Bit, Aluminum Foil Tape, 2 extra screws, lubricant
  • Mouse wheel
  • Shell with main clicks and side buttons

Early Opus kits and Review Units may be missing the lubricant.

Opus Assembly

Prepare the mouse wheel

A customized mouse wheel ring is NOT provided with the opus kit. Custom rings are available aftermarket as Size 10 rings (click for example).

Remove the rubber ring from the V8 mouse wheel and migrate it over to the mouse wheel provided.

Opus Assembly

Open the shell

The shell can be opened by removing the 5 screws on the base.

Opus uses M2x4mm countersunk screws for the entirety of the kit, so users do not need to track which screw came from which location.

Opus Assembly

Mount the main PCB

Mount the main PCB using 4 screws. Do not tighten any screw until all 4 screws are inserted for a flat and level installation.

Screws do not need to be machine tight. Stop as soon as any resistance is felt as overtightening screws will result in a warped base.

Opus Assembly

Test for flatness

Add skates and test for flatness before proceeding. Recommended skate locations are shown, but feel free to customize and experiment!

Tips for achieving flatness are on the next step.

Opus Assembly

Attain true level

"You want your shelf level or not?"

Tips for troubleshooting flatness:

  • Test the base for flatness without a PCB if issues persist.
  • If the base is not flat, please let us know and we'll do our best to assist you.
  • If the base is flat, then proceed to mount the PCB with very minimal tension on each screw.
  • Check for flatness as you tighten each screw.
  • The best result is achieved when the screw and the white silk screen marker are concentric for all screws.

Opus Assembly

Attach the battery

Connect the JST header before attaching the battery to the new adhesive pad provided. Make sure the cable has slack and is not under tension.

Opus Assembly

Remove the clickers

Before we can tune the clickers, they need to be removed from the shell. Lift up from the back of the clicker to loosen it from the friction fit pin, then slide it out.

Opus Assembly

Tune the clickers

Retrieve the aluminum foil tape and each mouse clicker. Each clicker will require about 1-2 pieces of foil, depending on your kit's individual tolerances, to achieve the most optimal click.

Review the instructions on the next step before attaching the foil.

Opus Assembly

Add aluminum foil

The foil must be lined up with the far edge and fold over the pressure pad as shown. The front of the pad cannot be covered, else the clicker cannot be reassembled later.

Start with 1 sheet of foil, then make sure to test the clicker to see if you like it before adding more layers.

Taking your time with this step will guarantee a better clicking experience.

Opus Assembly

Reassemble the clickers

Once the desired tension and pre-travel are achieved, reassemble the clickers.

Give the friction fit pins a gentle push to seat them into the top shell. Then, use 2 screws to refasten the clickers to the top shell.

Opus Assembly

Mount the daughterboard

Mount the daughterboard to the side of the mouse using 2 screws. Apply pressure to the side of the DB as shown to make sure the mount is flush with the side buttons.

Gently pinching the mouse and daughterboard together helps create good contact with the switch.

Opus Assembly

Lubricate the mouse wheel

Lubricate both sides of the mouse wheel generously, especially areas that contact the top shell. Do not lubricate the hexagonal pin.

Superlube should be provided, but most lubes will likely work. The shown lube is Krytox 205g0, a familiar lube to most keyboard lovers.

Opus Assembly

Lubricate the top shell

Generously lubricate both contact points for the mouse wheel on the top shell.

Opus Assembly

Connect the ribbon cable

Connect the ribbon cable to the main PCB. Lift the black latch to slide the ribbon in. The shiny side of the cable should be facing the POV of the picture.

Remember to close the latch to secure the cable.

Opus Assembly

Attach the base

Use 5 screws to secure the base to the top shell.

Make sure the base is seated well inside the top shell.

Opus Assembly

Remove the protective covers

Remove the protective covers on your skates.
